Right or wrong one reason we apply fungicide every year is to improve stalk strength. We let our corn dry down to 17-18% and then air it the rest of the way down. Only have 200 acres of corn so that makes it easy to do. Have noticed a significant difference in stay green with our corn vs no fungicide corn.
