I have at least 4 nest of Killdeer eggs in my farmyard every year. The nest are hard to find unless you see the sitter leave the nest. The little peepers stay in the nest until all the eggs hatch which will be one or two days. Even though the 4 eggs are layed within 2 weeks they all hatch within 2 days. My cats do not harm the Killdeer or little peepers. smooth
