You miss the point then. It's the American public paying the tarrifs on the wrench and the government is getting the money. The public loses and the bloated federal government wins. It's just a tax by another name. We all hate paying taxes that already exist why be happy for new ones?
It doesn't hurt China. Countless studies have been done and tariffs never help the public.

It may not, or it may. All depends on the situation. I use a product that got hit by tariffs and yes, the Chinese company producing it did give up some profit to continue selling the product in the US.
