You miss the point then. It's the American public paying the tarrifs on the wrench and the government is getting the money. The public loses and the bloated federal government wins. It's just a tax by another name. We all hate paying taxes that already exist why be happy for new ones?

It doesn't hurt China. Countless studies have been done and tariffs never help the public.


If no tariff, then Chinese wrench sells at $2 and very few $6 American wrenches sell = C gets more sales
If $4 tariff, $6 C wrench sits next to $6 A wrench and more A wrenches sell because of higher quality (supposedly) = A gets more sales C gets less sales

That is how it is not correct that "It doesn't hurt China"

Yes there is far more into it, but your example is not quite correct.
