NW Iowa | A little over a month ago I mentioned having a stomach hernia. You guys and gals told me to se a doctor now. I did see my MD who sent me to a surgeon who sent me in to have a CT scan. Back to the surgeon a week after the CT, surgeon told me no hernia but there is a sizeable stone in the gall bladder. A couple of you folks referred to a doctor who claims a low fat diet can cause a gall stone. I mentioned this to the surgeon and he has never heard of a low fat diet bring on a gall stone, he said it is more hereditary. Fast forward to today, I went back to the surgeon because of more pain, fullness in the gut, I don't want anything touching my belly and I run out of gas mid-afternoon and need to spend time in the recliner. He did the normal pressing on the belly which did not feel good to me and he asked a few questions about where the pain is and on and on. He mentioned surgery so I told him let's not mess around, let's get it done so I can get on with life.
Then he started rambling on about the surgery. I'm 73, he told me people in my age range have milder symptoms but the gall bladder tends to be in worse shape, the surgery is more complicated and sometimes he has to remove the gall bladder in pieces. He left the room and the scheduling nurse came in telling me the surgery will be Friday. I said "this coming Friday?" She said yes, your pre-op is tomorrow. Then she said this surgeon usually does not do surgeries on Friday. Hmmmm! So I have two and a half days to get some jobs done before the big day.
