NW Iowa
My dad had a fear of surgery claiming the anesthesia kills brain cells. Maybe it does, I have no reference on the subject. When he was about the age I am now or maybe a little younger his gall bladder was going bad but he toughed it out. I remember seeing him laying on the floor holding his gut. When he finally gave in and had surgery his gall bladder was shriveled up and it was attached to another organ. The surgery could not be done with a scope, the surgeon had to cut him open and he was in a lot of pain after the surgery. The surgeon told me it was a real “Iowa City” surgery meaning this was the kind of surgery we only see at the University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City. I hope to be walking back out of the hospital the same day but of course the way dad’s surgery turned out is on my mind.
