Subject: RE: Non weight bearing foot

Western Oregon
I have had a lot of foot and leg problems with my left leg from polio and a broken ankle. Then they fused the ankle joint and in the end needed the joint removed and fused. I've used a hands free knee crutch and arm brace crutches at different times. When I broke the ankle and small bone in lower leg in 2 places I was 50 and working. Never missed a day. Broke on Saturday, had Sunday off. Went to work Monday morning, Had to wait a week to have surgery because of swelling, went everyday. I had 16 steps to climb at the water plant. Went to work morning of surgery, back the next morning. I did the 2 arm crutch thing. Had cast removed but needed 6 more weeks. Got the knee crutch. Finally got the weight bearing boot. Had the surgery to remove the pin that flexes and only has so many steps. 2 years later the joint began breaking down and had it fused. Retired at 55 because of mobility problems and the next year had to have joint removed and fused. Have knee and hip problems because of odd gait from walking. I have a rocker bottom on shoe but it still puts odd pressure on hip and knee. I also have issues with inner ear, sometimes use knee scooter. I am 68 now. I have serious shoulder issues right now so can not use arm crutches. Even the walker causes issues so there are days I use the knee crutch....James
