There are arguments on both sides of the resistant starch idea.

Adding fat with carbs slows down the carb metabolism, which is not bad. But if carbs raise insulin, then the added fat gets shunted to fat storage along with the carbs. Insulin is the key to how energy is handled and if it is stored or utilized.

Addiction problem is another completely independent issue. For myself it is all to easy for an exception to become a regular consumption. I have to be pretty careful with that. It is just easier for me to eat all I want but to simply eat things that will not cause me problems in the long run if over consumed. Obviously not everyone has that problem.
