Ohio | I don't think I'd cut the soybeans completely out of the mix. Having only grass species for your cash crop seems like you're asking for trouble with disease pressure.
I'm really interested in trying to seed rapeseed with a drone prior to soybean harvest on ground that will be corn the following year. I've had great luck with wheat or rye as a cover prior to beans. Depending on how far along the corn is and what the weather conditions are I will make the decision to either drill it after corn comes off, or have it applied with a crop duster. Know of a few guys that have had it put on with a drone, but they charge more for the higher rate per acre. I've done a few nitrogen rate experiments in my corn and the strips with the higher rate have been very visible in the cover crop the following spring, so I know they will retain some nitrogen. | |
