West Central Illinois | Yea I'm sure the winter annuals will hold it back some. Have had ok stands no tilled through it corn/beans so we don't kill til spring. Main goal is to promote soil biology and ground cover through winter. This farm is HEL type ground very poor clay soils <100 PI. Breakeven for me is if I can graze 14 days it covers cost of planting and seed cost. If I get that I'll be satisfied because it will also benefit my perennial pastures by keeping cows off while grasses wake up in spring before I start the grazing rotation there. Not to mention feed quality on this stuff even if not a lot of it will be greater than any hay I put up. | |
