I have not been shy about my experience with Humic and Fulvic acid over the years. Do a search and you will find plenty results.
The biggest issue with Humic and Fulvic is that there is no standard. There is no regulation on what a product has to have in it to be considered a Humic product. Also the price companies charge for a gallon is robbery.
Those 2 reasons alone is what pushed me to start a company that offers a fair price on a high quality 12% Humic acid. The point in having the price so low is so that farmers can use enough to get agronomic results.
On my ground I found I need 5 gallons an acre. That cost is $33.75 an acre. However, what Humic acid frees up in P,K, calcium, and all micros puts me money ahead.
The thing we recommend for anyone looking to see what Humic will do is:
1. Get a Haney test
2. Include in that test a total nutrient digestion analysis ( his tells you what you have in your top 8-10” of soil. Do test as deep as you want.
3. Apply different amounts of Humic in a test strip. For example 2,4,6,10 gallons. Them follow up a few weeks to a few months later to see what has been freed up.
There is no secret amount or guideline for use with Humic, it all depends on your soil, previous practices, amount of manure and synthetic N and herbicide uses.
Sandy soils to tight clay will react differently as their makeup is different.
I will attach a few of my tests I have done. What I have been able to do is free up what I had applied for so many decades. With 8th year corn my soil recommendation from the lab to grow 275 bu corn was 240 lbs of N. Everything else was available in the soil. I have not applied manure or any micros for 5 years. That is what Humic acid does.
You can see on the soil sample on the green sheet what happened after another year of corn and only adding N and 7 gallons of Humic on that field….all the stars on right indicate levels that went UP, and none had been applied.
