NW Ohio
Put them in, If .05% is all you can get then that's what you can get. Lasers have put many feet of tile in and have not had any issues on 1/2 mile strings.

Now, with that being said, 1/2 mile strings with an .05% grade is plenty flat. Idealy you would want more, as I am sure you know. Is that all the depth you have for your main? Could the Main be installed any deeper to gain you a little more fall? I'm not sure of your situation, but if It were mine, I would look into a deeper main if possible. 1/2 mile strings are expensive, if I can install a better main, the time to do it is before you install the new laterals... Now with that being said, most of my mains are short runs. Lots of open drainage ditches in the area to tile into.

Also, check your laser for accuracy if it hasn't been checked in a while. Set your laser up on a tripod and make sure the grade is set to zero. Take a reading AT LEAST 100' away, (we like to go out farther, 500'+). Then rotate the laser 90 degrees and take another reading in the EXACT SAME PLACE as your first reading. Do this same thing for the last 2 sides. All of your numbers should be the same. If not, your laser needs to be calibrated. This is where a lot of errors can happen.

1/2 mile strings with that laser, you should be fine on a calm day. We put in many strings that long with a laser like that. I know of one place where we have 3/4 mile strings (.08 grade though) using a laser 20+ years ago and no problems yet....
