No til & GMO crops changed everything
When guys moldboard plowed 100% of acres, 3 cultivator passes in spring , spray, inter row cultivation (for those younger) picked rocks by hane , walked bean fields it took labor ,fuel and time
Now burn down, plant,fertilize,post spray & harvest
and all the profit made by eliminating all those field passes and labor went straight to the bayers, cortevas and syngentas, and farmers just multiplied up the number of acres they farmed and kept passing the profits on up the chain. Industrial progress aided by huge amounts of welfare to enable it all. Not sure the people at the bottom of the chain are any better off, it just transferred the wealth from the rural communities to wall street. |
