S Illinois | A question I have is are we playing a game of health wack a mole with regards to longevity? It’s morbid but everyone has a finite timeline. As medicine and health has advanced we have decreased infant mortality immensely and this has been one of the big drivers of life expectancy. But something will still kill us. Are we seeing more heart diseases that would not have been present with shorter lifespans seen a century ago? Additionally is there a “strong will survive” type selection that went on in history. That is to say those that survived their first 5 years of life were likely healthier from a beginning stage/gene standpoint that then allowed them to be less predisposed later in life to contract or develop certain diseases? | |
