I struggled hard w/this issue during my mom's last few years. We never did find a reasonable solution for her. She was in her mid-90s and functionally blind due to both macular degeneration and damage as a side effect of a med she'd been prescribed. Add that to the fact that her mental capabilities and confidence were slipping a bit due to her age and adapting to any new tech was really tough on her. She had a flip phone w/no data plan and she had her computer that she was very attached to and used daily, but trying to help her take that next step was rugged.
