| One gauge I use to tell whether or not ag is actually making money is to look at the small rural towns and communities we live. Local cafe closed again. There is A LOT of money that circulates through ag, most of it doesn't end up staying in the rural economies. Yes individual farmers can have considerable wealth, but rural America in a lot of places is just poor compared to many urban areas. What that tells me is that considering the investment, returns are actually quite small in comparison. It all works until it doesn't and I've been there. | |
