Yes, the “I” in SSI is insurance, if you are retired and are making say $100,000 I’d say you are socially secure and don’t need to collect on the insurance.

House doesn’t burn down ? No insurance payout. Don’t crash your car ? No payout.

Besides, all your working life you had disability and survivors insurance.
