social security is kind of related to farm finances :-) social security is supposedly going broke in the next 10 yrs (just when i`ll be signing up) one guy has a idea to replenish the "lockbox" by taxing government spending. for example, if we send $100 billion to ukraine then tax it 10%, 20% or whatever with that revenue going to the social security lock box. and yeah yeah yeah if $10 billion is spent on faaaaarm programs a percentage of that would go into the ss lockbox too.

i think that would be a good idea, because social security had been "sound as the pound" years ago before politicians raided the lockbox for other programs. jmo

Not to stir the pot but social security is not going to be "broke" in 10 years. It will just be unable to continue to pay benefits at their current levels and retirement ages. The whole social security is bankrupt is sensationalism by the media and political machines. The benefits need to be adjusted from their current levels. Logically retirement ages should be raised to match longer life expectancies from the programs inception. A 26% cut, from memory, in benefits, would allow SS to be viable through something like 2079.

Some politician and party just needs to have the balls and logic to say people are living 20-30 years after the retirement age, it needs to be gradually worked older. When the program started people lived 5-10 years after retiring. Admit that spending more on benefits then is brought in from incomes is an issue. Good luck with either party doing that, they all want to remain in power with votes from the population that believes the line that social security is bankrupt... Fear tactics scare people into irrational actions.
