| “ SSI was and should be an Insurance policy to be used by those that need it not to add to the inheritance of the children and grand children of the baby boomers.”
The US SSI program pays out about 40% of an average worker’s benefits. The average amount paid by the other countries of the world is about 60% of average wages. The Netherlands is about 90%.
Also, the US retirement age is in line with the rest of the world.
Your proposals on social security are extreme at best. Asking an average 67 baby boomer to keep working until age 70 or whatever you have in mind becomes physiologically impossible real quick for most. If we are not going to fund the elderly as other countries do, what groups of people would you rather the US spend money on? I know the party you support has all kinds of ideas.
