Never really know. We had 1 abort last year about 10 days after we put them on a new corn field. Shes pregnant now. Once every few years we'll have 1 slip within a couple days of preg checking. Don't put a lot of stock into losing 1, if you start having more call the vet.
+1 on you never know.
I have a small herd too and it hurts, but if you look over the long term, I think it averages out. Maybe nature's way of survival of the fittest. Similar to percentage of live/surviving calves, this year I'm over 100% (had a set of twins that made it). The year that you lose two calves is terrible, but the law of averages over time evens things out. IMHO. |
