Missouri | I occasionally get a load of small square bales dirt cheap. They're often first cutting alfalfa with some stem or 5th cutting that's nothing but leaf. I feel like I get better use of both sources when ground in the bunk. If it's zero and the wind is blowing you won't catch me out there stuffing flakes in the grinder through, so it's more of just using a cheap input that shows up ever now and then that I hate to see laying on the ground after the calves drag it out of the feeders.
When I was kid it was considered mandatory for the sow feed. I hated that job because of the screen size and how hard it was to get through the grinder.
