I rent an old barn just north of my house that I have fed cattle in for over 15 years. It has outside lots divided into east west and north side. There is an old covered working facility outside in the divider fence between east and west I have 4 pipe oil well pipe as the fence there was already a RR tie at corner of the covered area as fence post so I attached pipe to that 15 years ago RR tie probably been there for 50 years or more. Well we got 10 plus inches of snow yesterday and through the night and of all the days for the RR tie to rot off and fall over you guessed it today mixed 1000lb holsteins with 400 lbers

Well on the bright side at least there is 600# difference between them so sorting should be easy to tell which pen they need to be in!!! Lol

It's always something isn't it!

The only time it really bothers me that cattle get mixed is when the virgin heifers get mixed with the serviced heifers. We are constantly sorting by size/ condition to get calves moved through the system. Also do a lot of sorting by days bred/due dates/ etc, so as long as virgin heifers stay together, serviced heifers stay together, and confirmed pregnant stay together, it's not a huge deal here.
