North Central Indiana | I don’t think this breakeven math is quite right. If it costs 72k for the higher tech planter and you assume 5bu/ac gain on the average and conservatively say corn is $3/bu you would be +$15/ac on the investment. So it would take 4800 acres to breakeven. Thats why we upgraded, this math right here. Figured we could pay for the upgrade in 2 years with conservative market prices and after that it’s all profit. Maintenance hasn’t been anything more than normal so far for us. We also got electric drives when we did ours, which has indeed lowered our seed usage because we didn’t have row clutches before. Nothing massive but around 1.5% or so. Which also helps out a little bit. Since you said you’re mostly or all no-till it would be an easy decision for me | |
