I guess they don't build them like they used to? it's only 33 years old! Those valves in that pump are nothing more than tiny flaps of rubber, the tiniest tear in the rubber, or bit of debris in the inlet valve would stop that from pumping air. Did you try blowing the pump out with air? garden hose? pumping water with it?
Can this be it?
