There were a bunch of really nice older Farmers I got to know when I was a kid because they were in Lodge with my Dad. Most of them are gone now. They did a lot of charity work for people and groups in the community.
I always thought of it as more of a social thing than anything else. If you were on a farm in the 50’s it was probably kind of a lonely life. The chance to get cleaned up and go see some other people a couple times a month was probably appealing. Much different now
I have never seen anyone I know “pull their Mason card” like someone on here talks about. None of the Masons I know use it as any special benefit
