Subject: RE: Wedge anchor vs large tapcon

If it were me, I would do it one of two ways to ensure it lasts a long time:

One I Would build a metal bracket to WRAP the end of the wall in steel and then bolt it to the SIDE of the wall several inches (minimum 6-8") from the edge. This way the load of the gate is a SIDE load on the bolts, stronger overall in that application. I would use 4 bolt sets PER gate hinge.

The other way is IF you have time, use an epoxy anchor. IF installed properly, IMO epoxy is stronger for longevity vs a mechanical anchor.

That being said, to answer your question directly, I believe a wedge type anchor mounted 6-8" deep in the wall would be far stronger than any Tapcon or Blue bolt you can get. I would go with a minimum of a 1/2" to 3/4" anchor, the more the better, CENTERED on the wall.

You really want the load of whatever anchor you decide towards the middle of the wall as you can get.
