Subject: RE: Barn removal continued

North shore of Lake Ontario
We had one a bit bigger. Upper structure was pretty sound , good roof but foundation was poured concrete with no rebar. Was leaning more than a foot to the south from the barn hill pushing on it. Hired a house mover to jack it up an set it on cribs. Removed the barn hill, took out the old barn floor which was not very sound, knocked over the concrete walls then installed sono tubes under each verticle post . The mover let it back down onto the tubes and we bolted it down. One big door on the end and three side doors enable us to get quite a bit of the one week in use equipment in. Not super handy but cheaper than tearing it down and building an equivalent shed.
Interesting fact. We did this in the winter of 1995 -96. The mover was so nervous about it sitting on the cribs he drove 60 miles in the middle of the night to check it as there were high winds forecast and he wanted to make sure it was stable. He never said what he was going to do if it wasn’t. Barn was 40x120 .
