Subject: RE: Considering a switch from Trimble to Ag Leader steering

North Central Iowa
I've switched from Trimble to Ag Leader, but the Trimble stuff was much older. With that, been pleased with it. We'll see what I think of the Incommand Go16, will be using in the planter/sprayer tractor and likely the combine.

I'm not sure I can firmly answer you final questions on the headland guidance and corners. If you have good field boundaries, the ag leader system will automatically follow the boundary and always creates another track to turn back on (or the 2nd time around). But I didn't really pay attention to how it handles square corners in fields when using. For all of my fields, I have separate guidance lines (generally A-B, but some curved) for for almost all edges of the field that I switch to as I'm planting or spraying the headlands. One upside of this, is the tractor will drive right to the fence (or into the edge of non-crop area) and don't have to worry about how the guidance system might try to handle a corner. For corn, I have a semi-mounted planter, and I can backup straight into a corner as the Incommand with a Steady Steer will steer the tractor in reverse as well, so having dedicated A-B lines for headlands allows pretty easy backing up square into a corner. For the pull-type sprayer and my bean planter (pull type), not as practical and is only marginally helpful for backing into a corner.

edit: So yes, use Smartpath some, but mostly dedicated lines. This past year was the first year with the Ag Leader system to plant and spray, so haven't really figured out the full capability and limitations of smart path. Implement guidance isn't really a thing I need, so that isn't a feature that matters on my operation.
