NC Iowa | Ram1993 - 1/8/2025 17:38 The field is not tiled very well. The 20 acres on the hill burns up most years and theres 10 acres that drowns out or stunts crops too. APH on the farm in my 10 years of management is 210 on corn. But for whatever reason i cannot grow over 60bu beans on it What form of N are you putting on before planting? Also how many applications are you using to side dress and in what fashion are you doing them?
I have done every type of application there is. NH3 before planting under row, at an angle, sidedress NH3. Dry broadcast up front and topdress, dry injected sidedress between the row and striptilled under the row. Liquid with sprayer, planter and sidedress.
They all work, just whatever works for your equipment, labor availability and if hiring it done what's available in the area. Currently putting on 30 lbs of 32/ats with the planter behind the closing wheel and sidedressing 32/ats liquid with a coulter bar. Last year I Y dropped extra N at tassle that increased yield by 30-50bu/ac. I don't plan on doing that, but if needed its a great way to do it.
There is no perfect plan for Nitrogen, every year is different..... but I do think there are bad plans that in most years will not be top performing.
How high is the pH one the field, beans will struggle if a bunch is over 7.5. If its not high pH and there isn't much tile I bet it would made a big difference. |
