Subject: too much fructose

Pittsburg, Kansas
While high fructose corn sweetener is not good in excessive amounts, it is really not much different than table sugar. Table sugar is half and half fructose and glucose. HFCS is slightly higher in fructose, depending on the formulation for the exact amount. Around 5% higher fructose.

The problem with fructose is it bypasses normal digestion. Alcohol and fructose are both ported directly to the portal vein into the liver and processed by the liver. Excess amounts causes fatty liver because the liver can not put the excess fat into circulation like it does with high blood glucose via insulin instruction (in the form of high triglicerides).

Drink too much alcohol. Get FLD (fatty liver disease). Drink too much fructose? Get NAFDL (non alcoholic fatty liver disease). Small kids are now getting fatty livers because of all the fructose they are consuming. Used to be only alcoholics got fatty livers.

When you see a guy that is physically fit looking in every aspect except he has a "beer belly", there is probably a very high chance it is his fatty liver causing his belly to protrude out over the belt. The liver can become multiple times its normal size because of fat.

Not good for long term health.
