Kansas City, Missouri
JD8850, I get that .308 has been around since dinosaurs roamed the earth, but let’s be honest—it was meh when it came out, and it hasn’t aged like fine wine. The rate of drop on a .308 is so bad I think I could throw a rock with better ballistics past 300 yards. Yeah, it’s affordable and available, just like a rusty farm truck with bald tires—doesn’t mean I want to rely on it.

Meanwhile, the 6.5-300 Weatherby Mag is on another level. It’s like trading in your horse and buggy for a jet fighter. It shoots so flat, I swear the bullet isn't even dropping yet at 500 yards. Hits harder than a pissed-off Holstein and outruns the wind like it owes it money. The only reason I’m looking for something else is because the Weatherby is so good it almost feels like cheating. I just need a beater rifle that doesn’t make me feel like I’m committing a war crime on every deer I shoot. But going back to .308? I don't think I can.
