The only reason to update those units in my view is if you want to get RangePoint or CenterPoint RTX. The signal has changed since 2014 and an update is required. But, when you do that, it may require an update to the Nav, which you can do yourself with a laptop and a serial connector, but I have been unsuccessful at that endeavor and always end up paying the service call charge.
