Subject: RE: Milking parlor options

I am aware of the financial limitations of my small operation, but want to keep this a one man show. There are some big dairies here in NWIA and I am not the type to manage people. I look at other options to keep me on the farm and none are as appealing as keeping my small dairy going. I farm 240 acres, half rented and the rest purchased over the past 20 years, if you know this area dirt is now from $4500 up, rent $160 for decent land (180 corn and 55 bu. beans in good going). I could push the buildings down and crop farm with a good day job, but I'm just not smart enough for that yet. I would also like to keep the farm a working entity for my 12 year old son if he is still as much a farmer in ten years as he is now! I am a year away from 50 so I am a little leary of spending my last $ on something that will be empty in 12 or so years or sooner if health problems show up. Sorry this is so long, just a very hard decision to make!
