We have been looking at our 1020 platform and have decided the sickle is worn and needs replaced. I hate to put a new sickle in worn guards, so it may be a full replacement job. Son in law came back from a show recently talking about the SCH cutting system. Is anyone familiar with it / used it? It uses special sections and guards and (as I understand it) the sections are installed with every other one "upside down" and uses roller guides (which is a concept I find very interesting) for better alignment and reduced friction ... meaning it will take less horsepower just to run the sickle back and forth. I just wonder how reliable they are and how the bearings will handle dirt? Has anyone had experience with this system? I haven't priced aftermarket, but comparing this to Case pricing it will cost about $400 more to install. If it reduces bean shatter and header loss it won't take long to make that up. I have more than a full set of Case sickle section on hand, but if I can reduce header loss and make things work better I can find them a new home. So, anyone have experience?
